The Purpose

The Trentham Estate really is a special place, The 5th most visited paid for Visitor Attraction in 2021, Set in 725 acres of spectacular natural beauty, a mosaic of restored habitats including Heathland, Wood Pasture, Wet Woodland, Wetland, Meadows and SSSI Woodland with a mile-long lake. The award-winning Trentham Gardens has an exciting events calendar, a unique outdoor shopping village and is adjacent to the Monkey Forest visitor attraction. If you have a passion for people, experience of driving excellence and most importantly ready to see what Trentham Estate has to offer, we want to hear from you!

When

Monday – Friday, flexibility between 10am – 4pm

Role summary

Be hands-on as a valued member of the Gardens team, keeping our gardens and outdoor spaces looking their best (and accessible to all) year-round.

What’s involved?

  • You’ll be hands-on with the garden team keeping the garden looking wonderful all year round.
  • You will play a crucial role in delivering and implementing our exciting new planting projects.
  • Working independently and as part of an amazing team.
  • Working outside in most weathers.
  • Engaging with our visitors to the gardens and making everyone feel welcome and able to explore.
  • Flexibility to choose when you volunteer, be as involved as you want to be.
  • You are important in making sure things run as smoothly and safely as possible – this includes getting to know health and safety and evacuation procedures. There might occasionally be some other activities that are of interest to you, that we could use your help with.

This role will suit you if you are…

Passionate about working outside with a friendly and approachable attitude. Someone willing to get stuck in with the team and get their hands dirty.

By getting involved you could

  • Be part of our volunteer team. Many of our volunteers have gone on to develop new careers in gardening professionally.
  • Bring our gardens to life for children and their families. Look after our gardens to ensure visitors can continue to enjoy, discover and explore for years to come.
  • Develop your skills and knowledge of horticulture, working on schemes created by world renowned designers Tom Stuart Smith, Piet Oudolf and Professor Nigel Dunnett.
  • Make friends and enjoy meeting visitors whilst supporting the restoration of a Grade 2 historic garden.
